Class Overview

English 100A and English 100B were two amazing classes. Having the same class and the same professor was probably the best thing. Throughout both semesters, I wrote many papers and did many different assignments. If I were to chose the paper that I enjoyed the most, I would say that it was the Annotated Bibliography. This was my first Annotated Bibliography, at first, I was extremely confused about what I was supposed to do, but Professor. Covington did a great job by clarifying my doubts. This paper was definitely the one that took the most time, but I enjoyed it because I got to find 8 different sources and learned a lot while reading the articles. Another assignment i enjoyed from my English 100B class was the final remix project. This project was so interesting because first, I got to record a podcast, and I got to interview Lizzy, which is a friend of a family. I learned so much from the remix project, not only from mine but from my classmates. For the peer reviews, I had to evaluate my classmate’s project and I got to learn more about their topics. It is great to hear other opinions regarding a paper, so one can make it better. Therefore, I really enjoyed my English classes for my first year at UD, also, I feel that I improved in so many ways, starting with my writing. I know that I still have many things to learn and improve regarding my writing skills, but I am sure that I will get better throughout my other English classes at UD.

Sports Dinner Party

Quarantine can be fun, but it can really be boring sometimes. My mom tries to make the best to make my brothers and me happy even though we have tons of assignments. Last week, my mom said that we were going to have a sports dinner party and that for dinner, we must dress up and go to eat downstairs. I was so confused and first because I was like why are we doing this? But still, I. dressed up and went downstairs. it was so funny, my brothers dressed up so hilarious. My mom decorated the table with sports things and everything looked really pretty. I dressed as a baseball player, I had some braids on, a cap, some white leggings, sneakers, and a baseball shirt from my brother. I also had two black lines on my cheeks. My dad dressed as a snorkeler and he even had sunblock on his face, it was hilarious. My mom dressed as a soccer player, my brother as a boxer and my sister as a fencer. It was really fun, we got to eat ratatouille and kinds of ravioli. it was all delicious. We said that this week we were going to have another themed dinner party. We still do not know the theme, but I am sure that it is going to be as fun as the last dinner party. Therefore, my mom had the great idea of having a themed dinner party, it was great! I definitely enjoyed the night a lot!

Finland

If I could go anywhere in the world, I would go to Finland. I would go to Finland because there my paternal grandparents met. They already passed away, but when I was little, they told me many stories from Finland. I would like to go to Finland and enjoy its climate and its beauties. There are many places in Finland that I would like to visit, such as Helsinki and Turku. My grandparents met at the Helsinki Cathedral, I wish I could visit that cathedral. Finland would also be the place I would like to visit the most because I will be able to learn about its culture. Also, I will be able to taste typical food from them. My grandparents cooked Leipäjuusto, which is a typical dish from there. It tastes delicious. This dish is a cheese that is mixed with different seasoning and it is supposed to be left in the fridge for days. It is delicious and good to eat with crackers and grapes. My mom tried to make it a couple of years ago and it was not bad, but it was not as good as how my grandmother made it. Also, when I visit Helsinki, Finland, I would like to go on a boat ride, just like my grandparents did. My brothers and I say that when we are older and have money, we will go together to Finland. In conclusion, I would like to visit Finland because it reminds me a lot of my paternal grandparents who passed away.

Easter Week – Extra Credit Blog

Easter Break, also known as Resurrection Sunday, is a festival and holiday commemorating the resurrection of Jesus from the dead, described in the New Testament as having occurred on the third day after his burial following his crucifixion by the Romans at Calvary c. 30 AD. My family and I always celebrate this Holiday. In Puerto Rico, schools give the whole week free. Usually, my family and I would go to my grand-parents apartment near the beach. We would enjoy the sun and the nice warm weather. On Friday from that week, we would go to church and pray. I love this week because it is peaceful and I get to spend it with my family. In the day, we would go to the beach and pool, my aunts, uncles, and cousins would also come with us. My aunts and my mom would cook the best food. The best part is when my cousins, my siblings, and I are in the pool relaxing and our moms come with food and smoothies. It is a good week to relax and stay with the family. Also, when we went to church, the church people had a gathering and it was fun. I got to know people and it was fun. Sadly, with the COVID-19 Pandemic that we are living, this week I won’t be able to go there due to Quarantine, but at least I will be with my family and we will enjoy our fun times together. Therefore, Easter Break is always a fun week for my family and for me.

Online Classes

Online classes are interesting. I know many people have taken online classes previously. My mom took a cooking class online this past summer and she loved it. I did not really liked the class even though it was not a class for me. I always said that online classes can be distracting and that I do not think I’ll ever take online classes. Obviously, with the pandemic we are living with now, the COVID-19, we must continue our education virtually. To be honest, the first week I was a little confused, but now I am enjoying my classes. Even though I am not physically in my classes, my professors have made the best to make us feel comfortable and as if we were in the class with them. Some professors give their class online just like if we were in a classroom, others assign different assignments due throughout the week, and others record themselves and send out the videos, it is important to know how each professor if teaching the class so you are not lost. I do love y classes and enjoy them. Yes, it is hard to wake up early for the classes, but it has to be done, it is part of college life. Therefore, online classes have been fun and entertaining. I keep on learning and I have been in contact with each of my professors. Also, it is very important to see how your classmates and professors are doing in their houses, it is important to contact them and make sure they are also fine even though we living this tragic pandemic.

Spring Break in Quarantine

The Coronavirus, also known as COVID-19 is an infectious disease caused by a new virus. The disease causes respiratory illness (like the flu) with symptoms such as a cough, fever, and in more severe cases, difficulty breathing. This disease changed everyone’s plan for the following months. Personally, this disease made a change in many things. First, the cancellation of the rest of my freshman year, and now I have been in quarantine for 13 days. Being in quarantine has been interesting, I have 4 siblings, but right now, we are three in lockdown with mom and dad. My older brother, my little brother, and I look for different things to do that will entertain us. I had spring break the previous week and so did my brothers. We went to my pool every day and stayed there all day. My mom cooked good delicious food, even though we were having fun, we were sad because of the virus and the people struggling with this. Things I do to entertain myself are: doing exercise, watching movies, play different kinds of board games, and use the pool. One of the board games my brothers and I played was Monopoly. It is fun and entertaining, mostly because it is a game that usually takes up to an hour or maybe two. I also slept a lot last week. My expectations for spring break were different obviously because I did not plan to be in lockdown, but even though, I had a fun and nice spring break. Now I’m excited about the weekend because it’s my 19th birthday and I’ll get to spend it home with my family.

Business is my passion.

Business is my passion. Learning about Business has been a passion for me since my early ages. While I manage to take 18 credits each semester, I enjoy challenges and having things to do. I’m ready to take on a role that requires more leadership. A leadership position fits perfectly with my skill set and how I’m looking to grow in my career as a Marketing and Entrepreneurship major student. I’m eager to combine my creative talents with my professional skills to come up with ideas for the future. A part that spoke to me about business was the chance to combine my skills with other people’s skill. For my future, I am looking for a job where I not only enjoy what I am doing, but I can also grow into new positions. I want an job that allows me to learn more and expand my capabilities into new areas. I also believe in the value of teamwork, being able to work with others as excited as me will make a huge impact on my future job as a business student. Having a job on something that passionate you is a key to be happy. I am sure I will learn about business and have the opportunity to see the “real world” through interaction with business leaders and best practices from across the country. Not only I will learn a lot, but I will also discover the secret of being able to talk confidently with prospective employers and will experience the chance to test my business skills networking events and more.

Spring Break Expectation

Spring Break starts in 13 days and I am extremely excited. I am heading back home to Puerto Rico next Friday. The best feeling is counting down the days remaining to go back home. When I get home, I will definitely enjoy de 90 degrees weather and will go to the beach everyday. I am excited to get a tan and to see my family and friends. Something I would like to do in Puerto Rico is visit Puerto Rico’s prettiest Bioluminescent Bay. I visited this bioluminescent bay a couple of years ago and really enjoyed it, I would like to visit the bay again. People go to this bioluminiscent bay and kayak all around the bay. It is super fun because usually the kayaks are clear color so you can see the fishes and corals under you so clear. It is fun to see and learn abut the fishes and corals, usually, a group goes with a tour guide which explains fun facts about the corals. I would like to do more fun things in Puerto RIco, but still don’t know where I want to go visit. Therefore, when I go back home in two weeks, I am going to have a lot of fun with family and friends. The beach is the best part of Puerto Rico and the 90 degree weather. Also, before I come back to Dayton, I will get to celebrate my birthday with my family and friends back home because my birthday is the week we get back from Spring Break.

Favorite Movies

My favorite movie is “Freaky Friday”. “Freaky Friday” is a Disney movie from 2003 about a mom and a daughter that are not getting along and after eating a special fortune cookie, their bodies switch. The mom is trapped in her daughter’s body and vice versa. This movie is a famous comedy from Disney. I remember watching the movie as little with my younger brother and laughing a lot. Last time I saw the movie was the last day of the first semester here at the University of Dayton. My Puerto Rican friends and I had a flight for Saturday morning, so Friday night we decided to watch some movies and we got to enjoy “Freaky Friday”. The best part of the movie is when the daughter is trapped in her mother’s body and screams “Shut up” to her little brother. Her little brother is obviously confused because his mom would never talk that way. I recommend this movie. It is fun and adventurous. Also, the movie can teach you to be nice to the ones you love the most. In this case, the daughter and mother were fighting way too much, and after eating the cookie and being switched, they managed to get along very well. My second favorite movie is also a kids’ movie, it is “She’s the man”. The movie is hilarious and different. I would definitely recommend both of these movies to everyone. Watching these movies with your friends and family is a must, I promise you will laugh with both. Therefore, I love watching movies and my two favorite movies are “Freaky Friday” and “She’s the Man”.

Reading

Reading has never been my thing. I do not like to read, but I know that reading can be fun and interesting if you look for a good book. In High School, I had to read for English and Spanish class, and I usually did not read the books and used a summary for the test and quizzes. Some of the books I actually read were “The Great Gatsby” “Jane Eyre” and “The Scarlett Letter”. These books were some of the many I had to read. I honestly prefer to read books in Spanish, I read them faster and understand them way better than an English book. I challenged myself this semester to try and read at least two interesting books. Since I am studying Business, I decided to buy a Business book. The book’s name is “The Lean Startup”. I started reading the book last Friday and I enjoyed it. I was reading the book in my bed at 11ish pm so I fell asleep, but continued to read on Saturday. My favorite book is in Spanish and it is called “La Casa de Bernalda Alba”. It is a play by the Spanish dramatist Federico García Lorca. Commentators have often grouped it with Blood Wedding and Yerma as a “rural trilogy”. Therefore, I will try and accomplish my challenge of reading more books this year, after I finish reading the business book I bought, I will buy more books because reading is good. Also, I know I will learn a lot from these books.
